There once was a woman, let’s call her Anna, who had a very good job. She was blessed with a very nice office with a lot of windows. She could look outside during the day and enjoy the birds, the squirrels, the geese, and even a ground hog that built a little home under the stairs. She drank in the changing colors of the seasons, basked in the sunlight, was grateful for the shelter of the office during the rains, and enjoyed the warmth when the winter months came. She was in a great place in life.

Her boss was easy to work for as he was fair, didn’t micromanage, and was busy a great deal of the time. So, Anna had the best job ever. Except . . . except she felt unfulfilled. What else could she ask for? But her heart knew there was more. So much more. She had dreams and plans for herself that did not include being shut up in an office Monday through Friday, eight hours a day. Her heart longed for something different, something that mattered. So, what was she to do?

Anna prayed. And prayed. She sought out a Christian mentor and life coach, and began meeting regularly with her. Her mentor, let’s call her Joy, listened to her pour out her heart and was a support and encourager to her. Joy opened up Scriptures to her and prayed with her. Anna told Joy that she wanted to do more with her life than type, answer phones, and sit at a desk. Because Joy was an impartial listener, over the course of a few weeks, she was able to show Anna that there were options. Some were safe, some were scary. Some felt like a good fit, while others she knew immediately didn’t speak to her at all! Anna had to decide whether to walk the road of security, or step out in faith believing that the Lord would bless her journey.

Anna’s story is still unfolding day by day. She is investigating the steps it would take to leave the known for the unknown. Stay tuned for another episode of how Joy is helping Anna find the life she is meant to live!
